New Season, New Tour

This year we started the new season with a new tour. The world tour changed from PKRA to VKWC; Virgin Kitesurf World Championships.

Like last year only the top 12 women and top 24 men can compete in the main event, but this year we only have 2 qualifier events instead of trials at every event. We had one in Morocco and we will have one halfway the season. Because of my 4th place in the overall ranking of 2014 I was prequalified so I had some extra days of training before the start of the main event.

After the qualification event which took place from the 18th till the 22nd of May we could start with the main event. The three different disciplines were freestyle, big air and wave. I decided to also compete in the big air competition next to my main discipline freestyle. The freestyle competition was held at one of the best spots in the world; the speedspot. Every morning trucks would take all the riders, judges, the organisation and a crazy amount of gear so we could compete in the butter flat water 1km downwind from the spot. It was very exciting but also a bit stressful to be competing again after the winterbreak and see the progression that the other competitors have made.

The level has never been so high and all the girls were killing it. Every heat was really hard and I was incredibly happy to make it to the semi finals.

It was a really good start of the season! A fourth place in freestyle and a 3rd place in the big air where I did my highest kiteloops so far.

The next competitions will be in the beginning of June in Venezuela with the disciplines freestyle and big air.

2014 – NEW VIDEO

What a year! Watch this short recap of my season traveling to Brazil, Panama, Morocco, China and many more places to train and compete in the professional kiteboarding world tour. Couldn’t be happier with my 2nd place in slalom racing and my 4th place in freestyle. It was amazing to visit al these new places and meet so many great people along the way.

I’m really thankful for all my dear friends, family and everyone else supporting me throughout the year. Thanks for being part of my 2014 and let’s make many more great memories in 2015!
Also thanks to Brunotti, Slingshot, Mystic and Natural High for the support this year.

PKRA Germany

After the world cup in Feurteventura we went straight to the 6th tour stop of the season in Sankt Peter Ording, Germany. Kristiin and me arrived 4 days before the event to get some training in at the competition area and we were very lucky to have wind every day. Germany is the biggest event of the season and with a maximum number of riders in almost all disciplines it was promising for 10 days full of the best kite action in the world.

This event I decided to register for slalom racing again. After my succes in Fuerteventura I was really motivated to also give it a try in Germany where there were 3 times as much entries. I knew it was going to be a totally different game since the forecast wasn’t showing a lot of wind. That means that they will run the slalom in light wind and the moment there is enough wind for freestyle they will switch immediately. Luckily I could borrow a 17m Turbine from the Slingshot testcenter. I knew it would be challenging to compete on a twintip agains all the girls on raceboards, but I was happy to be on the water while other freestylers were waiting for wind.

In total we completed 5 races, first you had to race to qualify for the finals and than fight for best position. I’m really happy I was able to get such a good result between all the dedicated racers and even winning one race!

Think Blue Kitesurf World Cup

The last two days of the event we could finally start with the main event freestyle. We didn’t have a lot of wind the first 8 days and we had to do quite some qualifiers to sort out which guys and girls could compete in the main event. I was very happy to start competing in my favorite discipline! The conditions were changing the whole day and I was stoked to be in the top 4 of the single elimination again. Mother nature provided good freestyle conditions and we were able to finish just before the end of the event. In the end I was able to defend my 4th place but couldn’t pull it off to win the heat for 3rd place.

At the moment I’m at home training for the next tourstop. I’m am very happy with again good results in both disciplines this worldcup and very motivated to keep going for more podium places!
